about

Kirk Field is a former London club promoter and journalist who has worked at the forefront of the UK dance music and club scene for over a decade. He was responsible for the first reports from 'inside' the acid house /orbital rave scene of the legendary 1989 'summer of love'.

>From there he became a feature writer for MIXMAG, penning the first accounts of the global dance explosion from dancefloors in Paris, Austria, Ibiza, Italy, Croatia, Moscow, Goa & Australia. He was the first journalist to interview the new generation of popstars; The Shamen, The Orb, KLF & The Grid, in addition to covering the emergence of ambient/chill out clubs & anti-rave legislation.

Among the titles he has contributed to are: 'Time Out', Ministry, DJ Magazine, It Mag & The Source (The Sun). For nearly eight years he penned a weekly column for TNT Magazine, covering the strange nocturnal creature that is London clubland, whilst contributing to Time Out & Seven Magazine (for whom he was commissioned to write 'The A-Z of Ibiza', which also appeared on the dotmusic website.

He has worked as press officer for some of Londons top club events including Raindance ( the UK's first legal party organiser), World Dance, Trade, Freedom (Londons biggest weekly club-night), John Digweed's 'Bedrock', The Aquarium & Sundissential.

He has also presented items on MTVEurope (Party Zone) & BBC Radio One ("Global Update").

Kirk has worked in Mayrhofen, Austria every winter since 1987. In 1992 he helped launch 'The Arena' club, booking acts & DJs including Boy George, John Digweed & Faithless, as well as supplying the club with the best of London club culture - podium dancers, stilt walkers, laser firing robots and fire breathers/angle grinders! He was approached by the local tourist board to book acts for the mountain festival in 1997ˇ Faithless subsequently played in a blizzard!. More recently he found himself programming the music at the British Snowboard Championships, which were held in Mayrhofen from 2000-2002. The Freestylers, Normski & the chaotic Cuban Brothers all found themselves hungover in the snow, as a result.

2004 sees Kirk appaointed as Event Consultant for snowbombing - Europes' largest (and certainly noisiest) music festival-cum-holiday in the snow, which will be held in Mayrhofen.

His local knowledge, as you might expect, is excellent; and it's this experience which is available to everyone who goes on a radical escape holiday. But beware - he is also responsible for the legendary 'Avalanche of Alcohol' - a black run of 20 top tipples...

His other hobbies include watching cricket, drinking real ale, having the occasional chart hit in central Europe, threatening to spill the beans on clubland in an eagerly awaited book and spending time with his family; wife Catherine & son Robin.
